A sounds approach to fundraising is ‘selling the vision’. To encourage gift giving one should tap into the depths of a donors imagination, and make the wonder – what would the world look like with this project funded?
At the start of Parshas Terumah we are told:
שמות פרשת תרומה פרק כה
ב) דבר אל־בני ישראל ויקחו־לי תרומה מאת כל־איש אשר ידבנו לבו תקחו את־תרומתי
2. “Speak to the children of Israel, and have them take for Me an offering; from every person whose heart inspires him to generosity, you shall take My offering.
Where is the vision in this fundraising campaign?
The Chassam Sofer suggested the vision is the creation/recognition of a Nediv Lev, ‘an inspired heart’.
He suggests that the only item we can offer to God is our own inspiration and dedication.
How does one, today, give from his heart? How do we tap into the deep and honest inspiration that exists only internally?
