Exploring Tanach while reflecting on parenthood

Lev Avos Post 1

Yechiel Shaffer

Welcome to an online forum discussing parenthood. As a new parent, I have had the wonderful experiences of becoming a father while defining what kind of parent I would like to be. Some of the questions we will attempt to discuss here, through the lens of Tanach (Bible) and other important resources, include:

Hands-on parenting vs. Hands-off parenting (how much freedom do we give our children)

Keeping calm at stressful moments - Its 3am and the baby will not go back to sleep... How do I deal with that?

Parenthood is incredibly consuming and we sacrifice many other activities in ensure that we can be present and involved for this sacred mission:

  • What have we sacrificed for parenthood? Have we recognized the sacrifices we make?
  • Have I sacrificed some participation in communal social activities?
  • What is my new role in my local Jewish community?

We hope to touch on many of these topics and ask for suggestions, sources and feedback as this project develops.
